Oregon State Online Boating Safety Course and Exam
This online boating safety course is approved by the Oregon State Marine Board. Successfully completing this course will allow you to obtain the official Oregon Boater Education Card. The boating safety course and exam are free — you only pay if you pass!

Oregon State Boater Safety Certifcation
is Required for all Sea Scout ship
crew members operating in Oregon
and Washington water ways!

CAPTAINS NOTE: The boaters exam is a mandatory requirement to pilot any of our vessels on the Columbia River. Take the test like you would an open-book exam. Please print a copy of the results for the Yeoman and a copy for yourself. Staple or tape your copy in your manual. You do not neccessarily need to obtain the card, just printed proof you completed and passed the exam. If you want a card sent to you later, the email address you provide at the beginning of the exam should allow you to order them later.

Washington State Boating Safety Course and Exam
Please contact the State Parks & Recreation Commission to take a course in your area.

Although there is currently no mandatory education requirements in Washington, an Educated Boater is a Safer Boater. By taking a boating safety course, you help ensure our waterways are the safest they can be. Not to mention, completing a course may reduce your boat insurance 10-15%!

Drill Sargeant - Semaphore
Practice the semaphore flag system! Using the Drill Sergeant, test your ability to recognize letters and numbers. If you have trouble, review the lesson on the Semaphore Flag Waving System in your manual. NOTE: This test uses random text only. So you must recognize the flags, not words.

Boatswain's Calls
Listen and practice Boatswain's Calls from the US Navy Personel Command website. All audio files are in MP3 format. To hear the files, you will need an MP3 player, available from many download sites on the Internet. Files on this page can also be downloaded and burned to CD or recorded to tape to provide music for your ceremony.

Knots on the Web
An incredibly knotty page that has attempted to tie up as many useful resources in crafting knots. Perhaps on of the links on the page will help you where the manual seems weak for your learning style?
